Landmark moment for club legend

Shearer's statue has been relocated to a more prominent position within the stadium

Newcastle United have finally moved the statue of club legend Alan Shearer inside the boundaries of St James' Park.

The statue, which was unveiled in 2016, had previously been located outside the stadium, but has now been moved to a more prominent position within the ground.

The move has been welcomed by Shearer, who said: "I'm delighted that the statue has finally been moved inside the stadium.

"It's a great honour for me to have a statue at St James' Park, and I'm sure it will be a popular attraction for fans for many years to come."

Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley said: "We're delighted to have finally moved Alan's statue inside the stadium.

"He is one of the club's greatest ever players, and his statue is a fitting tribute to his achievements."

The statue has been placed in a prominent position outside the stadium's Milburn Stand, and is sure to become a popular attraction for fans.

Shearer is Newcastle United's all-time leading goalscorer, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers in the club's history.

He made 405 appearances for the club, scoring 206 goals, and helped them win the Premier League title in 1995.
